Kuchiki Byakuya was stubborn. That was a well-known fact throughout all of Seireiteri, but especially to those within his clan. Rukia had found it out within just a few weeks of living in close proximity to the only heir of the Kuchikis, but she really didn’t speak much of it. It came from his instinctive rash demeanor, but since he could not really express himself in a boisterous way as some could Byakuya just remained steadfast in his silence and in the belief that he was holding onto. Currently? Well, that would be the fact that his family thought that him taking on a Rukongai dog as his vice-captain was insane.
”He won’t last a week!”
”He’ll make a mockery of the sixth and most noble squad of the Gotei 13.”
”Really, Byakuya, what are you thinking?!”
The complaints went on and on, and yet they still spurred him on in his idea that he would force Abarai Renji to understand just where he stood in this world. And he meant the word ‘force’ quite literally. Well, perhaps he would not man-handle the obnoxious redhead, but he had other means. Quite a few, actually.
What brought on this intense ‘need’ to show his power? Well, Byakuya had a weakness, and Renji was stomping on it constantly. His pride as it were. He had heard rumors for the past few weeks that Renji, a member of the battle crazed 11th Squad thought it was possible to surpass him. Him. The only remaining captain of noble birth, and the last remaining heir to the House of Kuckiki! Just who did Abarai Renji think he was?! Well…It did not take Byakuya long to have ‘enough’. He did not blow up. He did not yell. He did not threaten. Oh no…He would show, tell, and all around teach Abarai Renji just how foolish he really was for this belief. It worked out perfectly that the redhead was then put up for vice-captaincy.
He had thought Ukitake was going to choke when he had accepted Renji as his vice-captain. Curiosity followed him for the next week before Renji was given the job officially. The other captains were obviously confused as to why Byakuya took him on. Surely Renji would be much better suited in another squad…ANY other squad. Well, Byakuya believed so as well, but he wanted to pull a few strings here and there. Cruel? Yes, it was. There was no denying that fact, but Byakuya was not one to trifle with.
Currently he was waiting in his office for Renji to arrive. Many of his officers were waiting outside as well, and he could hear their uncomfortable conversations from his desk. Not word for word, but the tone said it all. They were wondering the same things as his family and the other captains: What happened?!
Byakuya was writing a report, and signing documents not only for his squad but also for his clan. That was part of the difficulty right now as he was between vice-captains it increased his own workload. He did not mind paperwork, but everyone had their limit when it came to the tedious job. It just added to his already semi-foul appearance. He had been sitting for far too long…and he was impatient. Where was the redhead so he’d have an excuse to not write for a while?!
